COLD OUTSIDE – Still Hot & Sweaty

Managing & regulating your body’s temperature can be achieved in lots of differrent ways, whether you want to warm up or stay cool.

Hot Drinks, heated pads, light exercise to increase circulation are all great ways to stay warm, however for some of us that might suffer hormonal inbalances, the key to regulating temperature is to dress in layers, layers & Layers….Opt for loose-fitting, lightweight clothing made from natural fabrics like bamboo or cotton to allow air circulation and wick away sweat.

Wearing layers offers several advantages for regulating body temperature and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Below are some of the key benefits of layering:
  1. Temperature Regulation: Layering allows for better control over your body temperature. You can add or remove layers as needed to stay comfortable, whether you’re dealing with cold, warmth, or changing conditions throughout the day.
  2. Moisture Management: Base layers made of moisture-wicking materials help keep sweat away from your skin, preventing chills in cold weather and discomfort in warm weather. This helps maintain a more stable body temperature and keeps you dry.
  3. Versatility and Adaptability: Layers provide flexibility to adapt to different environments and activities. You can easily adjust your clothing to suit indoor and outdoor settings, as well as varying levels of physical activity.
  4. Protection from the Elements: Each layer can serve a specific purpose. For example, outer layers can be windproof or waterproof to protect against harsh weather, while mid-layers provide insulation, and base layers help with moisture management.
  5. Improved Comfort: Layering helps distribute weight and bulk more evenly, reducing discomfort and restriction of movement. It also allows for more tailored fits, enhancing overall comfort during different activities.

If you are unsure on how to layer an outfit, following is an example of layering an outfit with the intent to stay warm but also be able to cool down should you get too hot:

Base Layer: A great way to layer your outfit is to start with a base layer like a singlet, cami or tank top. Wear moisture-wicking fabrics like merino wool, bamboo or cotton to keep sweat away from your skin.
Middle Layer: A Long sleeve top or T-Shirt makes a great middle layer, again choose fabrics according to your warmth rquirements.
Outer Layer: Use insulating materials like fleece or down to trap heat and provide warmth.Choose a waterproof and windproof jacket to protect against the elements while allowing moisture to escape.
